I was quite excited to finish sculpting the faces of my five most recent dolls this weekend. I hope to have them finished by late April, with an update following shortly thereafter, but of course it's more up to my dear little M. than it is to me. He is a champion micro-napper - 30 to 40 minutes at a time - so mostly I work on dolls in the evenings after he's gone to sleep for the night.
I decided to make five larger dolls this time around, rather than 8-10 smaller ones. The smaller ones were fun, but I was starting to miss the greater involvement of a larger doll, and the detail in sculpting and costuming that are hard to achieve in the very small scale. Sculpting the faces and making each one truly distinct from the others has been my favourite aspect of this latest batch. You might have noticed that the eyes are smaller than usual on these dolls; I thought it might be interesting to play around with proportion a little. Unfortunately, it's very overcast here today so these photos aren't great, but they'll give you a rough idea.
Although there will only be five dolls available this time around, they do share a theme; it was inspired by a movie that came out last year that I particularly loved. I'm sure most of you who follow my blog can guess - you probably know my tastes by now! But here's a big clue, just in case...
First movie came to mind is "The Black Swan!" I hope I'm right because I loved that movie! The dolls are looking wonderful and I love that you've made their eyes smaller. Can't wait to see them finished!

I really like the serene and smoothly finished faces of these ones, they are very very elegant and refined little ladies already!

Are we going to have beautiful swan ballerinas this time I'm wondering? I'm so excited! The end of April the end of April... Please come...:))

Definitely, 'Black Swan' (although I have not seen it yet, but I was allured by the ballerina theme of the movie). Sounds like an exciting theme for your dolls.
And I will have a surprise coming to you this month or maybe into May, as I promised you a signed copy of my brother's book 'The Dragon of Cripple Creek' which has just come out. I have to buy the books through Amazon, have them shipped to him on the east coast, then he will sign them, and send them to me, then I will mail one to you...piece of cake! I am assuming you are still at the same address you sent one of your dolls to me. Just expect a surprise in the post in the next month. I know you love to write too and will love this new take on dragons in America.
Cheers!
Teresa

Monika - thank you; you always say the sweetest things!
Ashley, Burcu, Teresa - you guys know me so well! I *loved* Black Swan and all its over-the-top melodrama. I only hope my dolls can come close the scary ballerina aesthetic in the movie...

Lovely to see some new faces, can't wait to see the finished products. I love the 'dressing up' as much as their beautiful faces! Also have not seen the movie, but it looks to be a brilliant inspiration for you girls! Will be 'watching this space'!
Hope you and little M are keeping well.
Best wishes always xx
